A Different Seizure

It is believed Twink had an Atypical Absence Seizure on Sunday at church. Totally different than her previous seizures. The Count was holding her during praise & worship and noticed she had a glazed expression on her face and her mouth was moving in a odd manor. It did not last long but a few minutes later it happened again and I was able to catch her in the action. If you've ever witnessed a child have a seizure you can tell there is something up after they are done. She was just not herself. Very dazed and glazed over for about thirty minutes. Praise God that it was short lived and did not turn into a Tonic Clonic!

We called her neurologists office yesterday (her neuro is on a sabbatical in Korea) and talked to the nurse practitioner. I was put on hold and only waited maybe a minute! I explained what had happened and she confirmed that indeed it sounded like a seizure. Twink had routine labs drawn on Friday to see if her medication is within normal limits. As it turns out she is in the normal limits BUT was a 4.9. They like to have the levels between 4-12 so as you can see she has room to go up. She asked me if I was OK increasing her medication. Umm, I'll do anything to not have a repeat of this. I remember her neurologist telling me he wanted her at 5 so I am more than OK with the increase. It was last year we dealt with this and we've been so blessed that the medication has helped so far.

To be perfectly honest when our agency told us Lia had the potential for seizures we were OK with it. I knew about seizures from being a nurse but as a mom I did not do any further research. I really wish we had. I wish we had been more prepared, learned more about the resources for families and to talk to our older children about seizures. To watch your sibling have a seizure can be scary. Our Noah to this day gets nervous when Twink has a fever (not to mention the rest of us).

Fun Weekend

We had such a busy weekend but was so much fun. We have family in from out of state so we were able to enjoy their company this weekend. All of our children are around the same age. The only time I was not pregnant with my SIL was with her oldest and my youngest (Twink). We either were pregnant together or ended up pregnant soon after one had their baby. I must tell you the same thing has happened with Bebo. :) Are families are expecting. Their family will receive their bundle of joy before we will. Could you all keep them in your prayers. She has developed a complication with her pregnancy and I'm sure would appreciate all the prayers they could receive.

Here are some posed pictures from the weekend. I'll post some of the candid ones later this week.

Twink did not want to be in this picture but with the help of her uncle we were able to snap this picture! :) Great job Uncle Mark!

Are these girls not beautiful! My niece is an amazing young woman! I wish I had a video to show you. On Sunday in church she signed and sang to the beautiful song. I wish you could have seen her. There is so much joy and emotion in her when I've seen her do this. God has gifted her with such a beautiful talent and I am so proud of her.

Our Pets

Or should I say our pain in the rumps! No really, they are great pets and my children love them. Napoleon (the dog) or buddy as Spitfire calls him follows us around the house and does not leave our side.

Tabby is spunky and thinks she is a dog! Twink was upset at her the other day as Twink was playing with some string and Tabby was chasing it. It was a sight to see. She is usually found sleeping with Spitfire or Dash.

I wonder what Bebo will think of these creatures.

Communication Book

Since I've talked so much about Twinks speech issues I thought I'd show you her book that we, her teachers, and therapists use to communicate with. The book is a binder made up of pictures of things she uses daily and it gives her choices. The pictures are laminated and attached to lamented construction paper. Twink will take off whatever picture she is trying to tell you she wants. In school her favorite song is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and would pull that off each time her turn came in circle time. They ended up hiding it at the end of the school year at my request. She has now moved on to Wheels on the Bus.

Twinks wonderful ST made this book for us. Did I tell you all that she is finished with EI (early intervention) and on Monday will start her new preschool? She will go from 9-2pm but the bus will pick her up at 7:30am. She will now receive all of her therapies at school and they are all increasing! She will go Monday-Friday and will have three weeks off before she starts up again in September. It will be a long day but she will gain so much out of it. I must admit I do miss her therapists. Not to mention she had the best teacher. They have been with Twink since she came home from China. I do email her ST and I have a couple phone numbers. ;) They have really helped me this year as well.

I was told that it is possible Twink may get to try an electronic communication once she goes to her new school. We shall see what they will try with her.

I was able to capture a video of her with a new word. This may not be a big deal to some but to us we take every word we can get! :)

Oh this is not the video I wanted to upload and no longer have the one I wanted. I had asked Twink how old she was and she answered without me telling her.

Old Beauty

As I was driving to bring Dash to my dads I remembered this beautiful old church just down the road from him. My dad lives in the country. There is a ton of "old" near him. A couple years ago someone bought the land next to him and tore down the General Store that was falling apart. Nothing more has been done with the land.

This church is beautiful. It was built in 1853. I could not find out when they closed the doors. The fact that the stained glass windows are still intact amazes me. I can picture people pulling up to church on Sunday in their horse drawn wagons and their Sunday best. The little building in front that is falling apart used to be a school house. Can you imagine the kids in the school house? I would like to go up again and take more pictures at some point. I'd love to be able to get closer. Any of you have anything "old" like this around you? I'd love to see your pictures.
